Do you remember the line from the movie A Few Good Men, “you can’t handle the truth?” It was a very memorable scene between Colonel Nathan Jessup (Jack Nicholson) and Lt. Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise) and got to the heart of the matter. Colonel Jessup’s point was that you wouldn’t understand the decisions and sacrifices that need to be made if you’re not in his position as a military leader thus “you can’t handle the truth.”

The same can be said of sales but with way less consequences. Can you handle the truth about sales?

The truth about being a sales professional is that you have to be REAL. Are you REAL?

REAL – Relatable | Empathetic | Authentic | Likable
Are you Relatable?
Are you Empathetic?
Are you Authentic?
Are you Likable?

So are you REAL? If so, you’re well on your way to becoming a sales Professional.

However, if you’re REAL and lazy or REAL and unmotivated, you’re just really lazy or really unmotivated. It takes more than being REAL to being a top sales performer.

Now ask yourself these questions.

Are you willing to work hard?
Are you willing to show up on time?
Are you willing to learn?
Are you willing to practice?
Are you willing to take criticism?
Are you willing to change?
Are you willing to accept rejection?

What do all these questions have in common? The answer: we can control these things and there is absolutely no skill involved. If you have the desire, the mental fortitude and are REAL, you can be a top performing sales Professional.

I challenge you to be REAL and to be Willing in sales and in life.
